Walking Aids for Sale

Walking aids like rollators and walkers can be the perfect mobility solution for users who can still walk but require extra assistance getting around the house or on longer excursions. They offer a wider base and more support than simpler manual mobility devices, such as canes, and can also serve as a valuable secondary device for scooter and wheelchair users.

Scootaround sells variety of different walking aids, from rollators with seats, to medical walkers and knee walkers. If you’re thinking of purchasing a walking aid for yourself or a loved one, call the Scootaround team toll-free at 1-844-664-7467 or email . We will help find the right device for your specific needs.

With so many different walking aids available on the market, it can be tough to determine which one is best for you. Do you require a rollator? Or would a walker with a seat be a better fit?

The term “walking aids” refers to several different mobility products that provide additional stability and support for users while walking.

Standard Walkers

Standard walkers are durable, portable, and affordable, making them a popular mobility option for people who need additional support while walking. Also known as medical walkers or handicap walkers, these devices traditionally have no wheels, but many newer models sport two non-swivel front wheels for increased maneuverability.

Walkers can come with or without a seat depending on the style. Walkers with seats provide added comfort but will usually be larger and more difficult to transport than ones without a seat.

Rollators

The primary difference between rollators and walkers are the wheels. Rollators have four wheels, while walkers have either two wheels or no wheels. The front wheels on these devices are swivel casters, making the unit more maneuverable in tight indoor spaces. Rollators typically come standard with a seat, allowing users to sit down and rest during longer excursions. They also have brakes on the handles for added security.

Bariatric Rollators

Bariatric rollators are manufactured from stronger materials (usually reinforced steel) than standard models. This allows them to support weight capacities up to 450 lbs or more. Bariatric rollators are wider than most other walking aids and feature large, comfortable seats.

Knee Walkers

Knee walkers provide a comfortable and faster alternative to crutches, making them an ideal solution for individuals who are recovering from foot surgery, breaks, sprains, and other injuries to the lower leg. These devices come standard with dual hand brakes for added safety and can be easily folded for storage and transport.

Walking aids come in a variety of shapes and sizes. However, there are a handful of common features you’ll want to take into consideration before making a purchase.

  • Maneuverability:  walking aids that use swivel caster wheels (such as a rollator) are easier to maneuver.

  • Width:  the width of a rollator or handicap walker will affect the unit’s portability and stability.

  • Weight Capacity:  walking aids can support 250 to 500 lbs depending on the type and model.

  • Comfort:  wider seats and more padding will make walking aids more comfortable for the user.

  • Portability:  foldable and compact walking aids will be easier to transport than larger devices.

We carry the top rollator and handicap walker brands, including Stander and Drive Medical Walkers.

  1. Does Medicare cover walkers and rollators?

Yes. It is possible for Medicare to provide partial coverage for a walker or rollator as long as your circumstances meet the necessary requirements.

  2. Where can I buy walking aids?

You can purchase a walking aid online at scootaround.com/shop or over the phone toll-free at 1-844-664-7467.

  3. How much does a rollator weigh?

Rollators can weigh anywhere from 12 to 26 pounds depending on their size and what they’re made from. An average rollator will typically weigh around 18 pounds.

  4. How to adjust a rollator?

Most rollators have knobs or latches on the handles that allow you to adjust the height. Simply loosen the knob and then lower or raise the handles to a height that is comfortable for you. As a rule of thumb, the handlebar should be level with your wrist so that your arms are slightly bent when gripping the rollator.

Please consult your owner’s manual for more info on how to adjust your specific model.

  5. How wide are walkers?

Walkers can be anywhere from 23” to 31” wide depending on the model. Standard walkers usually have a width of around 26”.
